Character Meal Review: Cape May (Minnie’s Beach Bash)

Cape May is one of the more fun and laid back character meals at Disney World. Maybe it is the beach theme of the resort and characters. Maybe it was that we got there so early, and there weren’t a lot of crowds. Either way, this buffet meal was delicious, fun, and a great way to start your day!

Overview

Cape May is a really solid character meal. I really love the theming of the entire thing. You get a real beach vibe from the entire restaurant. This is a true breakfast buffet, so you are able to stuff your face with as many Mickey waffles as you want.

Honestly, because it is an all-you-can-eat buffet style breakfast, you really can get your money’s worth out of the experience, and it isn’t outlandish compared to what you might pay to go to a nice brunch buffet at any hotel. This one just comes with the added bonus of being at Disney World and having Disney characters showing up.

The meal does come in at the standard character meal price of $45.00 per adult and $29.00 per child.

Characters

Cape May features Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy. Since Cape May is located at Beach Club, naturally all the characters are in their beach attire. Which is great because they all look they are on vacation just like everyone else in the restaurant.

Every character comes around while you are dining, and in the event you are at the buffet, or away from your table for another reason, the cast members are always checking to make sure you saw all the chacters during your meal. They will even try to come by and give a heads up or warning, when the characters are headed your way.

There was also a surprise beach dance party with Minnie, where all the kids in the restaurant are welcomed to join Minnie in a short little dance party.

Before you go, you will receive a postcard for each child in your party (old and young) with pictures of and autographs from all of the characters you saw during your meal.

Food

As you sit down to breakfast you are immediately brought POG juice, and salted caramel beach bun bread with a vanilla cream sauce.

Cape May features a true breakfast style buffet. As we said earlier, Mickey waffles (and Minnie waffles) are available to you, along with other breakfast staples like pancakes, french toast, biscuits, grits, fresh fruit, yogurt, and so much more. The ham carving station and the omelet station really took things to the next level. While ham and eggs may not be gourmet the most gourmet of foods, they do make it feel like an elevated dining experience.

It isn’t listed on the menu, and we didn’t inquire about specialty coffees or cocktails. We can confirm that meal does come with any kind of juice, milk, and coffee. (Pro tip, pour the vanilla cream sauce into your coffee. It is delicious!)

Overall

To sum it all up, Cape May is extremely underrated, and is a really fun character meal. It flies under the radar because it isn’t on the monorail, it isn’t Topolino’s, and Mickey isn’t there. However, the characters are fun, the food is good, and it is walking distance to EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and the Skyliners. If you are looking for a fun character meal, in a fun and laid back environment, don’t sleep on Cape May.
