Why you always need a “rest” day

I’m sure you have heard the expression, “I need a vacation to recover from my vacation.” I’m convinced this was first quoted by someone who went on a vacation to Disney World.

Doing a theme park vacation, no matter which theme parks, is not a typical vacation. There is not typically slow mornings, lunch and snacks by the pool, roasting marshmallows by the campfire, or a lovely dinner out at a unique restaurant.

However, all of these things are possible on your theme park vacation, if you are willing to take the time to take a day and relax.

You always want to make sure you get your money’s worth when visiting Disney or Universal. For this reason, most people are afraid to take a day just to enjoy their trip. They are afraid that day will prove to be a waste of money.

This is a common misconception, and one we are here to disprove today.

Let’s take a look at the facts:

Fact 1) Most days at a theme park, you are going to walk 15,000-20,000 steps. That is the equivalent of 7-10 miles. Do you wake up every day on vacation and run a 10k, and then go about your normal movements? Me either.

Fact 2) Being at the parks requires a lot of time spent on your phone. A lot of spent not just walking/jogging miles, but hustling from attraction to attraction. Time spent standing in the heat, maybe getting a little hangry, or maybe being cranky from being a little too dehydrated.

If those are enough for you, let’s check out fact number three.

Fact 3) The best memories and moments are unplanned. The unplanned moments don’t happen when you are planning every detail, and every moment of your day, and you try to maximize your time in the parks.

Aren’t those the moments and memories you are looking to make when going on a vacation anyway?

So add in one more night at your resort, and space out those park days, and take the time to explore your resort.

Take the time to find those fun restaurants, sit down, and enjoy yourself. You never know when a character or two might show up.

Take the time to sit by the pool, have your favorite snack, rest your body, and spend time with the ones that are important to you. Not glued to your phone.

Take the time to disconnect from your every day life, and connect deeper with the ones you have taken the trip with.

If you are taking a vacation to have new experiences and make new memories, make sure to make the time to have those new experiences and make those new memories.
