Walt Disney World Resort Review: Pop Century
It isn’t necessarily fair to categorize Pop Century Resort the same way you would the All-Star resorts. Pop-Century features a bit larger and more robust dining hall. It features a little bit nicer pool areas. While the use of oversized statues is still present, there is one thing that definitely sets Pop Century apart from the All-Star resorts…The Skyliner!
Our family of five squeezed into one room so we could tell you all about what Pop Century is like, what is has to offer, and our honest review. We did this for you, our past, present, and future clients. So we hope you read up, and learn a thing or two.
Now, let’s talk about Pop Century Resort!
overview
Pop Century is classified as a value resort, but it is priced a little bit higher than the all-star rooms. Why? Well not only is it a little bit closer to all the parks, but is also features the Skyliner. The Skyliner is a convenient mode of transportation to take you from Pop Century to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, without you having to squeeze on a bus.
The resort features all kinds of characters and momentos from decades gone by from the 1950s through the 1990s. You will see fun characters like Lady and the Tramp, Baloo and Mowgli, and Roger Rabbit! You will also see giant iconic items like yo-yos, foosball players, a giant Mickey phone, and even a giant tub of play-doh.
This is a great resort if you are wanting to stay within the Disney bubble, have multiple modes of Disney transportation, and fun, larger than life characters. The rooms have also been updated with a very modern look that features some Disney touches.
This resort is ideal for anyone that fall into one of a few categories.
1) You are looking to go to Disney on a budget. You can generally find a great deal on this resort. With it being in the value category, a great deal can always be had. It does run a little bit more than the All-Star resort, but that is because of the next reason.
2) You are looking to stay on the Skyliner! The skyliner itself is like a ride. You soar high above Disney property. You can see all kinds of fun sights. Not only will it take you to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, but you can also visit Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort for a fantastic character breakfast!
3) You aren’t planning on staying at your resort outside of sleeping, this is a perfect place. You don’t need anything fancy except a bed. You don’t need too much room. While Pop Century does offer more than the All-Star resorts, it is still a value resort. So if you don’t need an abundance of restaurant choices, activities around the resort, or extra amenities, Pop Century would be a great resort to consider!
what we love
For Pop Century, the things we loved, we really loved.
Number one, without question, is the Skyliner. It is like a ride. You can take it to multiple parks. You can just ride it along the route. You can even hop form resort to resort and do a dessert or bar crawl.
Number two biggest pro has to be the renovated rooms. This is a great feature that not all of the resorts have yet. There are still a number that have the same carpet and design they have had since they were built. We love a well themed room, but please take out the carpet, give me extra room under the beds to luggage and storage, and give me a cleaner look overall.
Last but not least, the budget friendly price. This is an upper-tier value resort, but you don’t pay anywhere close to what you would pay if you were staying at a moderate. A family on a budget will love staying at this resort. The themed areas, plenty of choices at the food court, multiple large pools, and multiple modes of transportation (have we mentioned the Skyliner?). This is a great deal when it comes to value resorts!
areas of opportunity
Any value resort, is a value resort. Even if we would consider Pop Century an “upper” value resort, it is still a value resort. The bells and whistles of the moderate and deluxe resorts are not available here.
With that said, I would love to see some more resorts added to the Skyliner to make it easier to hop between resorts, or maybe a skyliner stop at Disney Springs. I think that will really elevate (get it?) the value (it’s too easy) of this resort.
Now, we know full well, if that were to happen, the cost of this resort would increase. However, it is more important to get the most bang for your buck in our opinion, and we believe this would add significant bang for those bucks.
I also would love to see a cool restaurant or bar placed under the Skyliner in between Art of Animation and Pop Century. I think it would be really cool to be able to be there, enjoy a drink, and maybe a little snack, and sit under the gondolas passing by overhead.
overall
In the end, we think it really comes down to what is important to you when it comes to Pop Century. The convenience of additional modes of transportation, and the savings in resort cost, can really make this a great choice. If you aren’t looking to spend a lot on your accommodations, or you are looking for a more budget friendly Disney resort, Pop Century is a great option!
