Jekyll Island Club Resort Review

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Jekyll Island Club Resort down in Jekyll Island, Georgia, and it was an amazing experience.

It started with the genuine theming of the resort. This resort is quickly approaching being 140 years old. That gave the buildings and rooms unique and distinctive character.

What was great to see is that the resort is actually in the process of undergoing a nice facelift. Everything that is being redone is sticking with the same theme and vibe of this resort from the 1800’s, just with some modern touches to make it more comfortable for guest used to staying in modern hotels and resorts.

We were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of some of the changes that have not been announced to the public, and we are happy to share that information with any clients looking to book before that information is made public.

Resort

The resort was just amazing. You honestly feel like you have gone back in time. For us, we felt like we were in a movie or TV show, and we were one of those families that spends their summers at one of those resorts where everyone knows everyone, and somehow no one works for weeks at a time.

One thing that made the Jekyll Island Club Resort unique was the resort campus, which is located in the historic district of Jekyll Island. Not only were the two main buildings available, but there are four cottages that also have single rooms, or you can rent out the full cottage for your party. There are three restaurants, a little snack shop, a bar all at the resort.

When you head down to Jekyll Island Club resort, you are there to relax.

Activities

Jekyll Island Club is located in the Historic District of Jekyll Island, and has a lot of great stuff to do, not just at the resort, but around it as well.

Let’s start with one of our favorite things at Jekyll Island Club, the cabana by the pool. We got to experience these on their opening weekend, and it was glorious. The cabanas come with snacks, a large cushioned couch, a mini fridge, reserved pool chair, and a dedicated server from the pool bar.

In addition to the pool Bar, Jekyll Island Club also has three restaurants. The Grand Dining room is open for breakfast. The Wharf is a seafood restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner. Lastly is the pantry, which is an all-day cafe, with plenty of options to satisfy everyone.

Jekyll Island Club has an on-site spa, offers historic tours, and allows you to reserve time on their world class croquet lawn.

Other Historic District activities include the Sea Turtle Center, bike rentals, and hitting up some local shops.

In addition to these activities, you can always head over to Jekyll Ocean club, as your stay at Jekyll Island Club gives you access there as well, and they have a free shuttle to take you to and from each location.

Jekyll Ocean club has their own pool, their own in-resort restaurant (88 Ocean), and beach access of course. Jekyll Ocean Club is also located right next to Jekyll Island’s Main Street area.

Areas of opportunity

It is hard to pick an area of opportunity where things could be improved. We would say that the inside of the rooms and resort could use a little bit of a facelift with some modern touches. However, we know those are already in the works, and are coming later this year.

I think one thing I’d like to see would be better access to areas without using the stairs. This has a lot to do with when the property was originally built, and we learned that the (Jekyll Island Historic Society?) has to approve any and all changes made to the resort, and this has caused our red tape in the way of making some of these changes in a more timely manner.

However, once again, we believe these changes are already under review, and we hope that they are approved and implemented sooner than later.

Overall

Overall, we can’t say enough good things about the resort. We are already planning on going back with our kids next year. Jekyll Island Club has something for everyone, no matter if you are looking for a family vacation or a couples getaway. The overall atmosphere, allows you to more easily relax, stay in the moment, and truly enjoy your time.
